Manlleu, the first municipality in Osona with the ‘Social services closer’ program

Manlleu is the first municipality in Osona to launch the ‘Closer social services’ program, a joint initiative of the Diputació de Barcelona, Red Cross and Manlleu council. This program aims to identify situations of need and facilitate access to social services for people over 80 years old.

Results of the study

The study, carried out between September 24 and December 14, 2007, revealed that 72.5% of people over 80 in Manlleu need help in different areas of their daily lives. In addition, it was found that there is a majority of women in this age group and that many of them are in poor health. Approximately 80% of these people are dependent to a greater or lesser degree.

The study also highlighted that there is a lack of knowledge about the resources and social services available for this group. This highlights the importance of promoting and publicizing these services to improve the quality of life of older people in Manlleu.

The ‘Social services closer’ program

The ‘Social services closer’ program has already been implemented in 55 towns in the province of Barcelona and has carried out more than 6,000 interviews. The main objective of this program is to detect situations of risk or vulnerability in people over 80 years of age and to offer them the support and care necessary to improve their quality of life.

In Manlleu, this program has been a success and has made it possible to identify the needs of people over 80 years old in the municipality. Thanks to this initiative, it has been possible to respond to their needs and improve their social and emotional situation.

conclusion

The study carried out in Manlleu highlights the importance of launching programs such as ‘Social services closer’ to meet the needs of people over 80 years old. These people need help and support to improve their quality of life and ensure their well-being.
