Abacus Futur: A new project to expand the Catalan ecosystem

Introducing Abacus Futur

The Abacus cooperative project has today presented Abacus Futur, a new initiative that will integrate the labels of the same publishing house: Ara Llibres, Amsterdam, the Casa dels Clàssics-Bernat Metge and Inuk, and with these that of Enciclopédia: Univers, La Galera, Elastic Books, Rata, Ediciones Invisibles, Bridge, Catedral; Viena Editions and Suma Llibres: Navona and Arcàdia. This editorial and audiovisual proposal will be chaired by Jaume Roures, with Xavier Mallafré as general manager and Ernest Folch as editorial manager. According to Oriol Soler, general manager of Abacus, the aim of this new project is to expand the Catalan ecosystem with new formats and content.

Project development

Abacus Futur will be developed in several phases over the coming months. The first phase consists of the creation of the Abacus Futur publishing group, which integrates several publishing projects such as Abacus Editorial, Enciclopédia, Viena Edicions and Suma Llibres. This conglomerate aspires to be a meeting point for other editorial projects and content.

Figures and organization

Abacus Futur accumulates more than half a million copies sold during 2023, with more than 300 novelties published and a catalog of more than 5,000 active references. In terms of turnover, around 20 million euros were invoiced last year. Regarding the organizational chart, Abacus Futur is looking for a model in which the different projects work autonomously, without a vertical structure.

Abacus Futur will be based in Carrer del Peu de la Creu in Barcelona, ​​which is the former headquarters of Grup62. In addition to publishing books, Abacus Futur will also incorporate Abacus’ audiovisual projects, with the participation of Jaume Roures. This expansion of the offer will include multimedia content, audiovisuals and other radio formats.
