Changes in the closure to road traffic of the pedestrian island in the Center of Mataró

Postponed entry into force of the sanctioning regime

The closure to vehicular traffic of the pedestrian island in the Center of Mataró, which was supposed to start sanctioning at the beginning of April, has been postponed by the City Council. This decision has been taken due to the delay in preparing the lists of vehicles authorized to access the area. This means that the sanctioning regime will not come into operation as planned.

Control and information in progress

Surveillance cameras and reporters with fluorescent vests have been active since last February 19. However, the implementation of the fine system has been postponed for a month to validate the operation of the authorized vehicle lists. During this time, on-site access control with whistleblowers and controllers will continue.

Closing details

The closure of the pedestrian island in the Center of Mataró means that unauthorized vehicles that try to access the area will be fined. In addition, fines will be applied to vehicles that stay longer than the limit within the demarcated area for pedestrians. Penalties for improper access or staying too long will range from 90 to 200 euros.

Opening hours and restrictions

The opening hours of the pedestrian island have been established in three slots: from 7 am to 10.30 am and from 3.15 pm to 4.15 pm from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 7 am to 10.30 am. Outside of these hours, only neighbors will be able to access it. In addition, the passage of vehicles has been restricted in certain areas that were previously trafficked.

Municipal commitment

The City Council has undertaken to ensure that the vehicles of the municipal services conform to the new schedule and the established restrictions. This implies that public transport will be the only one authorized to circulate outside opening hours.
