Marine Le Pen breaks relations with her German allies
Just 15 days before the European elections on June 9, an earthquake has occurred on the extreme right. Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally (RN), has decided to sever relations with her German allies in the AfD. This decision is due to statements made by Maximilian Krah, the European spitzenkandidat of the German far-right party. Krah stated in an interview that he would never say that those who wore an SS uniform were directly criminals. Furthermore, he defended that guilt had to be assessed individually and that among the 900,000 SS there were also many peasants and not all of them were criminals.
Salvini and Le Pen aligned
Marine Le Pen’s decision has generated repercussions in other far-right parties. Jordan Bardella, president and candidate for the European elections on the RN list, has decided to no longer sit with AfD deputies in the European Union Parliament. The League, the party of Italy’s deputy prime minister, Matteo Salvini, has also announced its support for the breakup. In a note, they have communicated that Salvini and Le Pen are perfectly aligned and in agreement regarding the future formation of the Identity and Democracy (ID) group in the European Parliament.
The Identity and Democracy block
The National Rally (RN) and The League are two of the main political formations that make up the Identity and Democracy (ID) bloc in the European Parliament. This bloc is also made up of the Vlaams Belang of Belgium, Freedom and Direct Democracy of the Czech Republic, the Danish People’s Party, the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia and the Freedom Party of the Netherlands.
