A musical reunion at the Palau de la Música
Next Monday, April 28, the Concert Hall of the Palau de la Música will host an exceptional event with the return of the Byzantine Accademia, one of the most prominent Baroque orchestras on the current landscape. This formation, under the baton of the renowned director Ottavio Dantone, is preparing to present his new interpretation by Il Giustino, a little -known work by Antonio Vivaldi.
A trip through Vivaldi’s music
Last year, the Byzantine Accademia was very successful with its Tamerlano version, and are now preparing to offer a new musical experience with Il Giustino. This work, with a libretto written by Nicolò Beregan, is part of the Palau Opera cycle, which seeks to revitalize and give life to the Baroque works through presentations in concert version.
An exceptional voices cast
The concert will feature a cast of top -notch soloists, including names such as Emőke Baráth (soprano), Sophie Rennert (Mezzosoprano) and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro (tenor). This group of talented voices unites to interpret a work that has been rediscovered in recent decades, bringing a new dimension to the music of Vivaldi.
The Giustino: a Tresor Amagat
Considered one of Vivaldi’s least known compositions, Il Giustino explores the life of Emperor Justí, combining music and drama in a dynamic way. The musical critic Jaume Radigales emphasizes that this play occupies an important place in the theatrical production of the Venetian composer, with a premiere that took place at the Teatro Capranica in Rome in 1724.
A fascinating historical context
The opera, which incorporates a libretto reviewed by Count Nicolò Beregan, originates in an earlier piece by Pietro Pariati and goes back to a primitive version that was possibly written by Antonio Lucchini. This rich story brings an additional layer of interest to the work, which has lasted over the years and is now again claimed by new generations.
The Trajectory of Ottavio Dante
Ottavio Dantone, one of the most influential directors of his generation, began his musical career at a young age, standing out in the organ and harpsichord. His collaboration with the Byzantine Accademia has been essential for the promotion of this orchestra, and his dedication to the historical interpretation practices have transformed the Baroque scene.
A renowned baroque music teacher
With a career marked by international awards and recognition, Dantone has expanded his repertoire to other musical periods, consolidating himself as a prestigious orchestra conductor. His recordings with prominent record companies have been acclaimed by critics, reaffirming their importance in the world of classical music.
An imperdible event
The concert by Il Giustino promises to be an unforgettable experience for all lovers of opera and baroque music. The combination of an exceptional cast, a rediscovered work and the direction of a teacher like Dantone make this event an essential event at the Palau de la Música. It is not only a concert, but also an opportunity to connect with the richness of European music heritage.
