La Rosa: One year later, the success of Sant Feliu’s local currency

An award-winning economic innovation

Just a year ago, Sant Feliu City Council presented an innovative initiative to boost local commerce: La Rosa, the city’s first currency. Recently, this local currency was recognized with an honorable mention in the “VI Competition of Technological Ideas for Retail Trade” of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

Success data one year after its creation

Since its creation on March 27, 2023, a total of 1434 people have used La Rosa to make transactions, generating 3990 movements with a total purchase value of €136,090.43. This figure reflects a remarkable success for the local currency, with 13% of the city’s commercial establishments adhering to the program.

Growth and diversification of affiliated establishments

Currently, a total of 101 local establishments have joined this initiative, with representation in various sectors such as fashion, leisure, professional services, catering, hairdressing, aesthetics and food. In addition, during the first months of 2024, 9 new establishments and 217 people have joined this initiative, with 204 of these new customers using La Rosa to make purchases.

Effect of bonus campaigns

The bonus campaigns promoted by the City Council have had a significant impact on membership of La Rosa. During these periods, a substantial increase in the number of transactions has been observed, with an additional 30% of Roses offered during the campaigns. This has contributed to an increase in economic movements during these periods, demonstrating the effectiveness of these initiatives in stimulating the use of the local currency.

Future prospects

Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Economic Activity of the Fet City Council in Sant Feliu, has announced the planning of a third bonus campaign for the upcoming Spring Festivals, demonstrating the City Council’s ongoing commitment to this initiative. This raises the question of whether bonus campaigns are the only factor driving La Rosa’s success and whether continued growth in the participation of individuals and businesses is anticipated.
