The National Police have arrested a man in Manacor accused of keeping 14,000 euros from a couple who were trying to rent a home in s’Illot.
The events occurred in October of last year, when the potential tenants agreed to rent a home owned by the alleged perpetrator’s mother for 275 euros per month and paid four years’ rent in advance.
Broken promises and unreturned money
After making the payment, the landlord started making excuses and they agreed that the rent would be delayed until February. However, the housing was never available to them and their money was not returned.
The couple discovered that another family lived in the house that had a rental contract until September 2024 and paid 300 euros per month.
Background of the accused
This individual had already been reported on two previous occasions for keeping rental deposits for homes that he later did not rent. In June 2020, he kept 700 euros for a home in Palma, and in March 2023, he took another 1,400 euros for another home in Manacor, which led to his arrest as the alleged perpetrator of the events. .
