VAT reduction: a shocking measure
A few weeks ago, the Government made the decision to reduce the VAT on olive oil, reducing the percentage from 5% to 0%. This measure has allowed the price in supermarkets such as Mercadona to also present improvements.
Mercadona adjusts its olive oil prices
Since the implementation of the VAT reduction on July 1, the price of olive oil has been decreasing. In fact, large supermarkets currently compete to offer the best prices for consumers.
Mercadona has not been slow to adapt its prices, implementing the reduction directly in its olive oil. All varieties, from extra virgin to the mildest, are now more accessible.
New prices for extra virgin olive oil in Mercadona
One of Mercadona’s most recognized oils is the Hacendado extra virgin oil, famous for its excellent quality. Now, it also stands out for its price reduction.
Before the VAT reduction, a one-liter bottle cost 9.90 euros. With the decrease in the tax, the price has dropped to 9.19 euros.
There have also been changes in the price of the 750 ml bottle of Gran Selección extra virgin olive oil. Before, its cost was 8.10 euros, now it can be purchased for 7.71 euros.

In addition to extra virgin, other types of olive oil in Mercadona have also experienced price reductions this month:
1st Estate olive oil, 1 liter
Before: 8 euros, now: 7.62 euros.
1 liter Hacendado virgin olive oil
Before: 8.95 euros, now: 8.52 euros.
3 liters Hacendado virgin olive oil
Before: 26.30 euros, now: 25.05 euros.
Mild and intense olive oil Hacendado 3 liters
Before: 23.90 euros, now: 22.76 euros.
