A Protest Action in Sant Feliu
This Wednesday morning, the Plataforma d’Afectades per la Hipoteca (PAH) occupied the reception of the Can Ricard building, where the Social Services of Sant Feliu City Council are located. The demonstrators hung posters with their complaints on the walls of the building, calling for a change in the operation of the municipal Social Services to guarantee people’s rights.
Complaints and Demands
The PAH, with the support of the Casal Blanca Bardiera and the Anti-Racist and Anti-Fascist Platform, demanded a change in the operation of the municipal Social Services and the signing of a collaboration agreement with the PAH to recognize it as a valid interlocutor . In addition, they asked for monthly meetings to address housing problems in Sant Feliu.
Reactions and Claims
According to Manolo Cobos, spokesperson for the PAH, people who go to Social Services receive discriminatory answers in matters of housing and food, attributing this situation to the lack of resources and the malfunctioning of the services. The PAH asks to be recognized as a valid interlocutor between people and the City Council, in addition to monthly meetings and an emergency social care service.
Commitments and Continuity
After the protest, Laura Bonilla, coordinator of the Social Services area, promised to meet the Housing and Social Services councilors with the PAH to address the demands next Wednesday, April 3. The PAH left the Can Ricart space with the intention of returning if the dynamics of Social Services do not improve.
