The Biden family supports US President Joe Biden for a second term

The support of the Biden family

The bad role played by US President Joe Biden in the front against his Republican rival in the presidential election, Donald Trump, continues to drag on. Inside and outside the Democratic Party, it is questioned whether Biden is in a position to face a second term. In this context, the Biden family has met at Camp David to discuss the future of the president of the United States (USA). The Bidens have encouraged the Democratic candidate to continue his re-election campaign.

According to two Biden advisers, quoted by CNN, the family has offered the president their “unconditional support” during the meeting at the secluded Camp David residence, which was attended by the first lady, Jill, her children and grandchildren. One of those who has most encouraged Joe Biden to continue has been his son Hunter, who has had to fight his own battle in court over an open investigation when Trump was in power and which resulted in him being found guilty this month on charges of illegal purchase and possession of a weapon.

Hunter Biden wants the president to continue running for the White House to show voters his feisty nature, rather than the image projected on debate night of an aging incumbent with a hoarse voice and not concluding some of the issues sentences. Other members of the family have offered to get more involved in the campaign this Sunday. In other words, the whole family is getting involved so that Biden can continue with the campaign.

The opinion of Democratic voters

While it’s clear that the Biden family would like it to continue, who has the final say in the success of this venture is in the hands of Democratic voters. According to a CBS poll, nearly half of Democratic voters, 45%, believe Biden should withdraw so a different candidate can take on Trump. In addition, after the debate, a large part of Americans (72%) consider that Biden does not have the ability to govern. Only 27% of all voters believe Biden has the cognitive health to serve as president, down from 35% before the debate.

A name change would not be a sure win either. According to another poll published by the think tank Data for Progress also reveals that none of the names being mixed as possible alternatives to Biden have a better chance of beating Trump. According to this poll, the vice president of the USA, Kamala Harris, would get 45% of the votes in a hypothetical confrontation with Trump, who would stay with 48%, the same figures that Biden currently gets. Governors of California, Gavin Newsom, and Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, who also sound like potential replacements for Biden, would also lose with 44% of the vote each respectively.
