Holy Week in Sant Llorenç
The parish of Sant Llorenç will celebrate Holy Week in the coming days. This religious celebration is one of the most important of the year and commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During these days, several liturgical events and processions are held that attract faithful and visitors from all over the region.
The events of Holy Week
The Holy Week events will begin this Sunday, March 24, with the blessing of Rams in Plaça de la Vila at 12 p.m. This tradition consists in the blessing of palms and olive branches, which symbolize the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
On Wednesday the 27th, the Chrism Mass will take place at 11 am in the Cathedral of Sant Llorenç. This mass is special, as the holy oils that will be used in the different sacraments during the year are blessed.
On Maundy Thursday, the Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at 7 pm in the Cathedral. This ceremony recalls the last supper of Jesus with his disciples before his crucifixion.
On Friday, the celebration of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ will take place. In the Cathedral, it will take place at 6 pm and once finished, from 8 pm, a Stations of the Cross will be held in Plaça de la Vila. This representation of the Way of the Cross of Jesus is a tradition deeply rooted in the parish.
On Saturday night, at 9:30 p.m., one of the most outstanding liturgical events of Holy Week will take place: the Easter Vigil Mass at the Cathedral of Sant Llorenç. This ceremony celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and marks the end of the period of mourning and penance.
On Easter Sunday, two Eucharists will be celebrated at 12 noon and 7 p.m. in the afternoon. These masses are special because they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the joy of new life.
On Easter Monday, another Eucharist will take place at 11 am. This mass marks the end of Holy Week and is a moment of reflection and gratitude for the salvation that Jesus offers to his followers.
Other activities and traditions
Once Easter is over, on Sunday April 7, the parish Easter gathering will take place. This event includes a mass at 12:00 in the Cathedral, the community reunion and the candy singing on the Sant Llorenç beach. It is an occasion to celebrate new life and communion among the members of the parish.
