The debut of ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’ and ‘Dance as you can’ on TVE: A lackluster premiere and a failed night dance

A disappointing premiere for ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’

The long-awaited series ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’, starring Aria Bedmar, Peter Vives and Rubén Cortada, debuted on La 1 with a cold 5.8% audience share and 634,000 viewers, well below the public channel’s expectations.

This disappointing reception represents a decrease of 7.1 points and 252,000 viewers compared to the previous week, which shows that TVE’s strategy of relaunching its premiere calendar with this production has not borne the expected results.

The series, which was presented as one of TVE’s main fiction bets for this year, is far behind the other two productions released so far in 2024: ‘La ley del mar’ (13.1%) and ‘Zorro’ (12.8%), both broadcast on Sunday night.

Comparison with previous releases

Unlike ‘La ley del mar’ and ‘Zorro’, which had not previously been broadcast on other networks or platforms, ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’ arrives on La 1 after having been released on other platforms.

In addition, the series still has seven more episodes to air, so its performance could improve in the coming weeks.

The failure of ‘Dance as you can’ on late night

The dance format ‘Dance as you can’, which was moved to late night due to its poor performance in prime time, has also failed to improve its results in its new time slot.

In its first installment on late night, ‘Baila as you can’ registered a historic low of 4.5% audience share and 226,000 viewers, despite the fact that it has not yet reached the halfway point of the ten announced galas.

The failure of ‘Baila as you can’ highlights TVE’s difficulties in finding entertainment formats that connect with the public and reinforces the idea that the public channel needs to review its programming strategy.

The night dominated by ‘Temptation Island’

Despite the disappointing results of ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’ and ‘Dance as You Can’, La 1 achieved good audience figures with the third and final final debate of ‘The Island of Temptations’, which won its time slot to ‘El Peliculón’ on Antena 3.

The debate on ‘The Island of Temptations’ registered a 12.3% screen share and 896,000 viewers, which shows that the reality show continues to be one of the most popular content on Spanish television.

Audience analysis

Regarding the general audiences on Wednesday, Antena 3 remained the leader with a 14% screen share, followed by Telecinco with 11.4% and laSexta with 7.5%.

Among the most watched programs of the day, ‘La rouleta de laluck’ on Antena 3 (23.1%), ‘Vamos a ver’ on Telecinco (16.6%), ‘Aruser@s’ on laSexta (15, 8%) and ‘La Promesa’ on La 1 (12.3%).

In prime time, ‘Survivors: Last Hour’ was the most watched program with an 8.6% audience share and 1,144,000 viewers, followed by ‘The Temptations Debate’ (12.3%), ‘The Hormiguero’ (14%) and ‘El Peliculón’ (10.6%).

On late night, ‘Cinema: The Secrets of the Lake Cabin’ was the most watched program with an 8.3% audience share and 249,000 viewers.
