The Mobile World Congress 2024: Mobile Technology and the Future

The Largest International Event on Mobile Technology

There is less than a week left for Mobile World Congress 2024, the largest international event on mobile technology that this year revolves around the motto Future First. MWC 2024 will be held at Fira de Barcelona from February 26 to 29 and more than 95,000 attendees, 2,400 exhibitors and 1,100 speakers are expected to pass through the congress.

El Lema Future First

The motto Future First will guide all conferences and the event will also focus on bringing together industries, continents, technologies and communities to “realize the potential of the future”. This year’s agenda addresses half a dozen sub-themes that reflect the latest trends and technologies: 5G and Beyond, Connecting Everything, Humanising AI, Manufacturing DX, Game Changers and Our Digital DNA.

The Latest Mobile Trends

In this 2024 congress there will be the latest mobile trends and there will be the option to explore these latest trends in devices. “We will see articles with higher screen resolutions, smaller chip manufacturers, foldable screens…” comments César Córcoles, professor in the UOC’s Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications Studies and member of the Technology Enhanced Knowledge and Research group Interaction Group (Teking). In addition, virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality spaces can also be observed.

Artificial Intelligence and 5G

Another of the topics that will be present at this congress will revolve around artificial intelligence and Generative AI. MWC 2024 will show how companies can prioritize a responsible approach to this technology and incorporate trust by design in all their operations. Regarding 5G, the event will discuss the advances and investment in this technology to offer innovative and improved services to technology companies.

Monetization of IoT and Sustainability

In parallel, MWC will also address IoT (Internet of Things) monetization cases, ranging from agricultural applications to ultra-dense industrial environments, and new developments in the 5G-IoT standard will also be presented. Finally, this year’s congress will not leave sustainability behind. The Mobile organizers have already indicated that the concern for the environmental impact of the ICT sector will be reflected in the Fira de Barcelona. In fact, last year the venue already used energy coming from 100% renewable sources and 40% of this was produced in local wind farms and it is expected that this year the attitude will be the same.

News and Presentations

Regarding the news, not all manufacturers have revealed their plans for this year’s MWC, although some have not wanted to keep surprises. Xiaomi, Samsung, Honor and Nokia will be some of the brands that, predictably, will present new devices, but during the event there will also be new proposals for robot dogs, flying vehicles and smart watches.

Four Years from Now (4YFN)

Within MWC 2024, the tenth edition of the Four Years from Now (4YFN) congress will be held, focused on innovation and emerging companies. The aim of this fair, which will also last until February 29, is to support both investors and emerging companies and establish connections between them.
