The return of the movie of the week to La 1: Rampage Project and its impact on the audience

A new beginning for The Movie of the Week

The movie of the week made its return this Sunday to La 1 after two weeks of absence from the audience. However, the Rampage Project screening failed to generate significant interest, attracting only 9.7% of the audience and 1,199,000 viewers, from 10:05 p.m. to 11:41 p.m.

Performance compared to other emissions

With these numbers, the film starring Dwayne Johnson becomes the second with the lowest screen share and the third least watched of the ten broadcast this year in TVE’s Sunday schedule. Despite this, it far exceeds the average of La 1 during the day, as well as the two episodes of Operación Barrio Inglés broadcast the previous week at the same time.

Instability throughout 2024

The future of The Movie of the Week is uncertain, since it has stopped broadcasting on 8 of the 18 Sundays in 2024, almost half of the time. This interruption is due in part to current affairs, such as the Galician and Basque election specials, as well as La 1’s decision to broadcast Spanish series on the last night of the week.

Recent career

For seven consecutive weeks between March and April, Movie of the Week maintained a constant presence in the programming, achieving good results with films such as Uncharted, 2 Guns and Assault on Power. However, there was a new stoppage due to the Basque elections and Operation English Quarter.

Future perspectives

La 1 has the opportunity to maintain this veteran cinematographic container indefinitely on Sunday night, once again turning it into the most visible and competitive window to cinema on the entire television schedule. The future of The Movie of the Week will depend on the strategy that La 1 adopts with respect to the rest of the Spanish series that it has to release.
