The Víctor Balaguer Museum Library of Vilanova i la Geltrú reopens its doors after a comprehensive renovation

A complete renovation to improve the experience

The Víctor Balaguer Library Museum of Vilanova i la Geltrú, located in Garraf, has reopened its doors after two years of construction. During this time, a comprehensive renovation of the equipment has been carried out with the aim of improving the visitor experience. The reform has included updating the air conditioning system and improving accessibility. In addition, the numerous works of art and sculptures that were removed during the works have been returned to their place.

A nationally recognized museum

The Víctor Balaguer Museu Library is one of the most recognized museums in the country and has been declared a Museum of National Interest since 2019. In its rooms, visitors can admire a wide collection of works of art from different periods and origins. Among the outstanding pieces are those collected by Víctor Balaguer in the 19th century, as well as works by renowned national and local authors. Also on display are works from the collections of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia and the Prado Museum.

A historic air-conditioned library

One of the new features of the renovation is the air conditioning of the historic library, which houses a bibliographic collection from the 19th century with more than 23,000 items. This intervention was necessary to guarantee the conservation of the books and improve the comfort of the events held in this space. Thanks to the new air conditioning system, the temperature of each room can be regulated independently, which contributes to the building’s energy efficiency.

An investment in improvement and conservation

The comprehensive renovation of the Víctor Balaguer Museu Library has involved an investment of 900,000 euros, financed by the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Barcelona Provincial Council. This investment has allowed not only to improve air conditioning and accessibility, but also to carry out other interventions to improve the equipment. The result is a renovated museum prepared to receive visitors with all the guarantees.

A reopening with free admission

The reopening of the Víctor Balaguer Museu Library was celebrated with the presence of the mayor of Vilanova, Juan Luis Ruiz, and the acting Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga. From its reopening until August 4, admission to the museum will be free, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the new facilities and the works of art it houses.
