Central Catalonia is full of rural tourists for Holy Week

Accommodations in the area record 100% occupancy from Thursday to Monday

Central Catalonia is one of the favorite destinations for lovers of rural tourism, especially in these Holy Week days. After the health crisis caused by covid-19, the rural accommodations in the region have recovered the rhythm and have put up the poster in full from Thursday to Monday. The visitors mostly come from the metropolitan area and seek to enjoy the nature, the tranquility and the gastronomy of the area.

Berguedà, Solsonès, northern Anoia, Bages and Osona, the most popular regions

The regions of Central Catalonia that concentrate the most rural tourism offer are Berguedà, Solsonès, northern Anoia, Bages and Osona. These counties offer a wide variety of landscapes, activities and cultural heritage that attract visitors. Some of the best-known rural houses are Masia Can Feliu, in Berguedà, Casa Rural Cal Pauet, in Solsonès, or Casa Rural Cal Riera, north of Anoia.

Montserrat, the pole of attraction par excellence

Another of the most visited places during these Holy Week days is Montserrat, the symbol of Catalonia. The monastery and its surroundings receive thousands of tourists every year, both Catalan and from the rest of Spain and abroad. Accommodations in the area, such as Hostatgeria, Hotel Abat Cisneros and Celles Abat Marcet, have sold out. According to monastery sources, the number of visitors depends a lot on the weather, but they expect a good turnout.

The foreign tourists, the great absentees

Despite the good performance of rural tourism in Central Catalonia, the recovery of foreign tourists, who before the pandemic represented an important part of the demand, is still pending. The health situation and mobility restrictions meant that they could not come this year. In addition, Easter is not one of the periods with the greatest influx of this type of visitors, who prefer the summer or the Puríssima bridge. The rural tourism guilds trust that vaccination and the improvement of the situation will allow this market segment to recover as soon as possible.
