A woman who travels the world with her camera
Kris Ubach is the name of the photographer who has been chosen by the Image Commission to portray the Saints this year and show them in an exhibition next year. Ubach is a renowned photojournalist who is dedicated to traveling the world and documenting different cultures and social realities. As a mataronina, she has a special connection with the Festa Major of her city and wants to take advantage of the opportunity to make a unique and original work. “My goal is for the exhibition to be a journey through Les Santes and to go beyond the party itself. I don’t want to get too far ahead, but it will be a surprise,” he says.
A professional with a long career
Her passion for photography and travel led her to become a professional photojournalist and writer specializing in tourism, travel and sustainability. For more than twenty-five years, he has traveled to more than 85 countries and published his written and graphic reports in numerous magazines and newspapers of national and international prestige, such as National Geographic Viajes, Conde Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet Traveler , Viajar and La Vanguardia. He has also collaborated in media such as RAC1 and Catalunya Ràdio, where he currently has the weekly American Chronicles section. In addition, he teaches courses, workshops and conferences on travel journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
An author of books and exhibitions
His work can not only be read, but also seen. Ubach has published several books on travel, such as Fotografía de aventura y en condiciones extremas (2014), Gokulashtami (2015), Pirineos: más allá de las montañas (2023) and American Chronicles, which is about to be released. He has also participated in photographic exhibitions throughout Spain, such as Naturaleza insólita, Ellos son el mundo, Hábitas and Mirades al Japón. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, such as the G! from the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board, the Journalism Award of the German Chamber of Commerce, the Zlata Penkala awards from Croatia, the journalism award from the Czech Republic or the Tahitian Guardian and his letters.
An old lady coming home
Despite his nomadic life, Ubach does not forget his roots and always returns to Mataró, his hometown. “I’ve worked all over the world, but when I was asked to do the Les Santes photo project, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. It’s an honor and a pleasure to be able to do it. I love the Festa Major and live it with intensity . This year will be different, because I will be working, but also enjoying myself. I hope that the result will be to the taste of all Mataronins and Mataronins,” he says. His journey through Les Santes will begin at the end of July and will end with an exhibition that can be seen in July 2025 at La Presó, center of M|A|C – Mataró Contemporary Art.
