Introduction
About a year ago, Sant Feliu City Council presented an innovative economic initiative to boost local commerce: La Rosa, the city’s first currency. This local currency has recently been awarded an honorable mention in the “6th Contest of Technological Ideas for Retail Trade” of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces. The main objective of this initiative is to promote trade in Sant Feliu, establish a better relationship with the public and promote economic activity, all the while building customer loyalty.
Success data
Since its creation on March 27, 2023, a total of 1434 people have used La Rosa to carry out transactions in Sant Feliu. During this year, a total of 3990 transactions were made with an economic value of purchases of €136,090.43. These transactions have been carried out exclusively in local businesses, thus demonstrating support for the local economy.
Membership of local businesses
13% of Sant Feliu’s commercial establishments, a total of 101, have joined La Rosa. These establishments belong to different sectors, such as fashion and accessories, leisure and culture, professional services, catering, hairdressing and beauty centers, and food.
Continuous growth
During the first months of 2024, 9 new commercial establishments have been registered and 217 people have joined this initiative. Of this new clientele, 204 people have used La Rosa to make purchases.
Bonus campaigns
To continue promoting La Rosa, the City Council has launched two bonus campaigns this year. In these campaigns, customers could get an additional 30% of Roses for every 100 euros invested. These campaigns have been successful and have contributed to the increase in transactions with La Rosa.
Movements during bonus campaigns
During the bonus campaigns, it has been observed that 91% of economic movements with La Rosa have been made during these periods. This shows how attractive these campaigns are to customers and their influence on the use of La Rosa.
Movements outside of bonus campaigns
During periods without bonus campaigns, only 9% of economic movements with La Rosa have occurred. This indicates that bonus campaigns are a key factor in incentivizing the use of La Rosa and increasing transactions.
Future of La Rosa
Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Economic Activity of the Sant Feliu City Council, has announced that a third bonus campaign is being prepared that will coincide with the Spring Festival. This initiative will continue to promote La Rosa and it is expected that more people and businesses will join in the future.
Conclusion
La Rosa has proven to be a successful initiative to boost local commerce in Sant Feliu. With a growing number of people and businesses joining it, this local currency is contributing to the city’s economic stability and customer loyalty. It is necessary to continue to monitor the evolution of La Rosa to assess its long-term impact.
