The Mobile World Congress: An expected event
The first compasses of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 have left the first images of the expected floods of congress participants, together with taxis and VTC vehicles operating in full operation all around the grounds of the Fira de Barcelona, in L’Hospitalet from Llobregat The expectation is to reach 95,000 attendees during the four days that the technological congress will last, far surpassing last year’s figure.
A public safety device
The Mossos d’Esquadra have assumed, as usual, the public security device around the Mobile World Congress. Not only are they monitoring the perimeter of the entire compound and have deployed several anti-riot units there as a precaution, last-minute checks are also being carried out at the entrance. Thus, at the access point where there are two parked cars, the canine unit specialized in explosive detection has intervened in the search for explosives.
A congress without restrictions
After a cancellation and two years with health restrictions, masks are a minority in the corridors of the salon, where tens of thousands of people will move, half with executive positions. During the previous edition, limitations had already been lifted to travel from China, but many attendees were not in time to come to the fair. Congress maintains ban on Russian companies over war with Ukraine in response to international sanctions.
Technological proposals
Apart from the 9,100 direct jobs, the congress has important benefits for the hospitality industry with 20,000 room reservations from the official agency of the MWC. Under the motto of Future First, the fair encompasses all sectors that depend on mobile technology and focuses on 5G deployment, the digitization of the economy, open networks, artificial intelligence or sustainable mobility. This year, brands such as the Chinese Huawei, which is crowned as the main exhibitor, are coming back with a bang.

The latest technological trends are presented at the Mobile World Congress. In addition to mobile devices, new developments are expected in areas such as robotics, cloud computing and commercial uses of virtual, augmented and mixed reality. Presentations of devices such as Motorola’s foldable phone or the Xiaomi 14 Ultra are also highlighted. In addition, technological innovations outside mobile phones are expected such as the semi-transparent laptop from Lenovo, the electric and autonomous vehicle SU7 from Xiaomi or the flying car from Alef Aeronautics. Artificial intelligence is present in all sectors.
