Ebro farmers block the C-12 roundabout in protest
A group of farmers from Ebre has announced that tomorrow, Thursday, they will cut off the access roundabout to the EMD de Jesús in Tortosa from 8:00 am. The reason for this action is their indignation at the considered abusive application of the water canon to the peasantry.
Fight for the rights of farmers
According to the statements of Miquel Piñol, responsible for the plant sector of Unió de Pagesos, the possibility of maintaining the road closure for a period of up to 48 hours has been requested. This measure is a way to press for the return of the water fee that they consider unfair.
Controversy with the Catalan Water Agency
The ACA has caused unrest among farmers by imposing bills for the use of water from personal or community wells with amounts that can reach up to 12,000 euros. Union of Farmers argues that if the water from the wells is used for agricultural or livestock activities, it should not be considered as domestic use.
Meeting to find a solution
In view of the situation, a meeting has been called at the Territorial Services of Climate Action in the Terres de l’Ebre with the participation of farmers, irrigators and the relevant authorities to try to reach an agreement. Despite this, Miquel Piñol assures that, until now, the protest at the roundabout of Jesús remains valid.
Informational meeting on the application of the water canon
The Catalan Water Agency and the Territorial Services of Climate Action will meet with representatives of well irrigating communities in the Terres de l’Ebre to address the application of the water canon in these facilities and provide a detailed explanation to those affected.
