Airbnb implements new rule to prevent hidden cameras
Airbnb has decided to apply this new rule to prevent cases of tenants discovering hidden cameras in the apartments they rent. From April 30, this rule will come into force and will affect all apartment owners. The decision to implement this rule was made after several scandals where tenants discovered hidden cameras installed by landlords.
The cases of hidden cameras in Airbnb
There have been several cases of hidden cameras on Airbnb that have been reported in the press in recent years. One such case occurred in Silver Spring, outside of Washington, where a couple from Texas discovered hidden cameras in the apartment they had rented. This situation ended with the arrest of the owner of the apartment.
Concern among users
Cases of hidden cameras have raised concerns among users of Airbnb and other vacation rentals. Internet forums have been filled with people sharing their bad experiences and giving advice to prevent such situations. Importantly, Airbnb used to allow hosts to have security cameras in common areas, but this new rule will now ban cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms.
Airbnb’s new policy
Airbnb has decided to change its security camera policy to provide greater clarity to users. As of April 30, security cameras will be prohibited in apartment bedrooms and bathrooms. However, cameras will continue to be allowed in outdoor areas to monitor home security.
Sanctions for non-compliance with the rule
Airbnb has warned that there will be penalties for owners who break the new rule. Such penalties may include removal of the Owner’s account on the Platform. It is important that owners are aware of this new policy to avoid negative consequences.
