Thefts on the roads of the province of Girona have experienced a remarkable increase in the last year, according to data from the Mossos d’Esquadra. This increase was 62%, highlighting the worrying trend of crimes of this type in the region.
Increase in cases in AP-7
The AP-7 highway has become one of the points most frequented by thieves, where both thefts and robberies are committed, including cases of violence. Cases have increased significantly, from 340 in 2022 to 568 in 2023, representing a 67% increase in a single year.
Types of thefts
Burglaries from inside vehicles, both armed and unarmed, have seen an alarming increase. Burglaries from inside vehicles have increased from 93 to 148, while burglaries have increased from 69 to 120 over the same period. These facts highlight the need to address this problem effectively.

The Mossos d’Esquadra have implemented several measures to address this problem, including the presence of the Regional Traffic Area and the Mobility Operational Unit. Thieves have also targeted trucks parked in service areas, using rental or stolen vehicles to carry out the robberies. Recently, the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested three multi-recidivists for stealing from a foreign vehicle parked in a Montseny service area, highlighting the need for strong action to confront this problem.
