Introduction
About a year ago, Sant Feliu City Council presented an innovative economic initiative to boost local commerce: La Rosa, the city’s first currency. This local currency has recently been awarded an honorable mention in the ‘6th Technological Ideas Competition for Retail Trade’ of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, thus recognizing its impact and innovation in the commercial sector.
Objectives of the initiative
The main objective of this initiative is to promote local trade in Sant Feliu, establish closer relations with the public and promote economic activity, all the while building customer loyalty. The City Council has launched several economic bonus campaigns to encourage the use of La Rosa and promote shopping at local shops.
Results and data
Since its creation on March 27, 2023, a total of 1434 people have used La Rosa to make commercial transactions, with a total purchase value of €136,090.43. These transactions have exclusively benefited the local businesses of Sant Feliu and its surroundings.
Currently, 13% of the city’s commercial establishments, corresponding to 101 businesses, have joined this initiative. These establishments belong to different sectors, such as fashion and accessories, leisure and culture, professional services, catering, hairdressing and beauty centers, and food.
During the first months of 2024, 9 new commercial establishments have been registered and 217 people have joined this initiative. Of this new clientele, 204 people have used La Rosa to make purchases at local shops.
Bonus campaigns
The City Council has carried out two bonus campaigns this year to continue promoting the use of La Rosa. In these campaigns, an additional bonus of 30% has been offered on purchases made with La Rosa, up to a maximum of 100 euros. This means that for every 100 euros spent on purchases with La Rosa, users could earn an additional 30 euros.
During periods without bonus campaigns, approximately 9% of business transactions are made with La Rosa. These campaigns have proven to be effective in encouraging purchases from local businesses and increasing the use of the local currency.
Future of La Rosa
According to Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Economic Activity of Sant Feliu City Council, a third bonus campaign is planned in the coming months, coinciding with the Spring Festival. This initiative will continue to evolve and it is expected that more and more people and businesses will join it.
In conclusion, La Rosa has proven to be an innovative economic initiative that has boosted local commerce in Sant Feliu. With broad citizen participation and a growing number of affiliated businesses, La Rosa has contributed to promoting economic activity and consolidating local commerce as the driving force of the city.
