The Tots x l’Empordà coalition calls for institutional respect and dialogue
The coalition of independent municipal groups Tots x l’Empordà, which is present in 25 councils of Empordà, the regional councils of Alt and Baix Empordà and the Diputació de Girona, will bring to the councils where it is represented a motion that demands the government of the Generalitat in institutional respect and demands more dialogue and collaboration, “without threats or impositions”.
In a statement, the coalition adds that it also does not want those councils that are investing and acting to reduce water consumption to be sanctioned. In the motion of the text, it is also recalled that “councils are administrations willing to roll up their sleeves when things don’t go well, far beyond even what the current regulations establish as their own powers.
The motion calls for multi-year investments to guarantee the necessary water
The motion, with 5 points in the proposed agreement, calls on the Government to prioritize “the multi-year investments necessary to provide Catalonia with the water it needs, both for people’s day-to-day life and to maintain its economy”. Along these lines, he asks “to establish new extraordinary lines of aid to municipalities to carry out improvements to drinking water distribution networks. It should be possible to supplement these lost subsidies with ICF credits without interest and with a long-term return”. The Generalitat is also urged “to carry out, in emergency situations, a network interconnection policy that is fair to the territories and that avoids some rivers drying up while others are not touched”, referring to the different treatment received by the Ter and Ebre rivers.
The Tots x l’Empordà coalition expresses its concern about the drying up of the Ter river and asks that the territory and its needs be taken into account. He also criticizes the inequality in the treatment between the rivers Ter and Ebre, stating that it is not fair that one river is dried up while the other remains untouchable, regardless of its flow.
The importance of preserving the primary sector and tourism
The Tots x l’Empordà coalition highlights the importance of the primary sector and tourism for the regions of Empordà and the country. He expresses his concern about the overexertion applied to the primary sector during the emergency, despite being a strategic sector for the country. He also regrets the lack of empathy with the tourism sector, which is a substantial part of the GDP of the regions of Empordà and of the country.
