The Official Journal of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC) has published the call for the position of Major of the Mossos d’Esquadra
The Official Journal of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC) has published today the decree calling for the position of major, the highest rank of the Mossos d’Esquadra, as announced, in a meeting with the command of the body, the director general of the Police, Pere Ferrer. From today, therefore, all the commissioners and police stations of the corps will be able to present their candidacy to opt for this position, the third in the history of the modern corps and the second that will be active, together with that of Major Josep Lluís Trapero, which maintains the rank it achieved in April 2017, with President Carles Puigdemont, Councilor Jordi Jané and the Director General of the Police, Albert Batlle.
Details of the call
The position of Mossos d’Esquadra major is freely appointed and must be resolved within a month. The commissioner who is appointed major will still be appointed by this government, before the elections, and therefore not yet in office. This same Tuesday, the DOGC also publishes the call for elections that President Pere Aragonès signed yesterday after the failure of the budgets. The Catalan elections will be next May 12.
Possible candidates
Although the call is open to all commissioners, it is considered that commissioner Eduard Sallent, head of the body, is the most likely candidate to occupy the position of major. Sallent will have to present his candidacy, be elected and complete the rank course at the Police School, at the Public Security Institute of Catalonia (ISPC). It is expected that the appointment of Sallent will not be carried out with an official ceremony at the Palau de la Generalitat, as happened with Major Josep Lluís Trapero, but with a simpler ceremony at the headquarters of the department.
Official call
The official call for the position of Mossos d’Esquadra major can be consulted in the Official Journal of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC), with call number 55/24.
