Unemployment is reduced by 698 people in the Principality, after increasing in January
BarcelonaThe month of February gave a boost to the labor market and Catalonia was once again the community that generated the most employment in the State. According to the figures provided this Monday by the Ministry of Social Security, the number of Social Security contributors grew by 23,637 people, 0.64% more than the previous month. This places the total number of affiliates in the Principality at 3,698,533. In the last twelve months, 94,788 jobs have been created.
As for unemployment, it also improved after worsening in January. The number of registered unemployed fell by 698 people and there are now 346,373 unemployed in Catalonia, according to data published this Monday by the Ministry of Labor. In the last year, this group has shrunk by 4,915 people, a drop of 1.4%.
Affiliation to Social Security is also growing in Spain, but less than in Catalonia
If we look at Spain as a whole, affiliation to Social Security also progressed in February, with 103,621 new affiliates representing an increase of 0.5%. The ministry has noted that membership has surpassed 20.7 million employed and that it has registered the largest growth in one month of February since 2007. “In February, we once again reached historically high levels, with a greater dynamism than the previous months and we see the structural change that the labor reform has brought about”, defended the minister of the branch, Elma Saiz.
In the second month of the year, unemployment fell by 7,452 people in Spain and stood at 2,760,408, the lowest figure in a February since 2008. On the other hand, there are 150,607 unemployed people less than a year ago, a decrease of 5.17% in the volume of unemployed. Compared to January, unemployment fell in all sectors of economic activity: services (-8,548 people), construction (-2,433), industry (-1,865) and agriculture (-315).
