Growing tension between the ministry and FP teachers
Frustration in the education community has reached new levels as a new conflict emerges between the Department of Education and Vocational Training (VT) teachers. The situation, already complex, has subsequently been worsened by the irregularities in the awarding of places for the next academic year, as well as by the delay in the promises of salary equalization.
History of a fight for equality
After many years of demands and mobilizations, the union organizations CCOO and UGT, excluding the main union USTEC, signed an agreement with councilor Anna Simó. This pact aimed to reverse cuts accumulated since 2010 and aimed to facilitate a salary equalization by July 2024 between vocational technical teachers and secondary school teachers.
Unfulfilled promises and accumulated frustrations
Despite the fact that the agreement seemed designed to eliminate inequalities, the reality has been revealed to be disappointing. Official sources from the Department of Education have confirmed that this year’s salaries do not reflect the supplement that was supposed to regularize the salary differences of 176.03 euros. This delay must be expected until October, three months later than had been communicated.
An agreement with conditions
The agreement that was signed implied that salary equalization would be subject to the approval of budgets for this year, an element that has generated debate. Trade unionist Jesús Martín has pointed out the incongruity that there is a budgeted item of 33 million euros, approved with the support of ERC and PSC, but it is not being implemented.
Contradictory statement and lack of transparency
Transparency has been a recurring theme in this debate. Several sources from the ministry claim to have informed the educational community about the postponement of the salary supplement at a recent meeting of the Sectorial Committee. However, Martín rejects this claim proposing that the education has missed the truth in relation to what was discussed: ‘It was not mentioned at any time that the payment would be delayed until October. It’s a lack of honesty’, he expressed.
The fight continues
With the unfulfilled promises that accumulate and an atmosphere of tension that intensifies, the FP teachers remain firm in their demands. This situation is not only a reflection of the existing malaise, but also of the need to recognize the essential value that VET teachers bring to society.
Final reflections on an educational crisis
This whole situation highlights not only the internal struggles within the education system, but also the importance of an open and constructive dialogue between the parties involved. The next action of the Department of Education will mark the way forward in an environment that demands more respect and compensation for those professionals who work for the education of the future.
