Challenges in the Library of Castilla-La Mancha: Maintenance, Security and Sanitary Conditions

Breakdowns in Water Supplies

The Castilla-La Mancha Library, located in the Alcázar of Toledo, is facing significant challenges due to water pipe breakdowns. This situation has led to a lack of water supply at the facilities, which has affected both workers and users.

The Occupational Risk Prevention delegate of the Civil Servant Personnel Board in Toledo, Silvia Fernández, has reported on the second breakdown in less than a year, which has left the library without water supply since March 23.

During these situations, there have been significant limitations in access to toilets, which has affected both visitors and staff. The lack of water supply has led to the need to use jugs to pour water into toilets, which has made it difficult to properly wash hands.

The STAS-CLM union has expressed its concern and requested detailed information on the measures taken to address this situation. In addition, the possibility of closing the library has been raised if the minimum sanitary conditions established by the Royal Decree on safety and health in the workplace are not met.

Measures Adopted and Coordination for Repair

The director of the regional Library, María Dolores Cristóbal, has detailed the measures adopted to mitigate the effects of the breakdown. These include the cancellation of public toilets, the permanent supply of water in five-liter bottles, and coordination with the maintenance company to address the repair of the fault.

In addition, information has been provided on the planning of the location and repair of broken pipes, with the implementation of measures to guarantee safety and hygiene in the facilities.

Impact on Staff and Users

Library staff have expressed concern about the limited conditions in which they have had to work, highlighting the difficulty in maintaining proper hygiene in the bathrooms and the shortage of water for cleaning tasks. Despite these challenges, they have demonstrated exceptional commitment in facing these circumstances.

On the other hand, users have also been affected by limitations in access to health services, which has raised concerns regarding safety and comfort during their visit to the library.
