The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and the Municipal Government team are negotiating the application of the AMBici
The Municipal Government team is in talks with the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) for the application of the AMBici, a shared electric bicycle service that has already been implemented in six municipalities, such as Sant Joan Despí and Sant Just Desvern, and which is expected to expand to 15 locations. The mayor of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Oriol Bossa, has expressed a very positive assessment of the service and has shown his support for everything that promotes the use of bicycles.
The economic cost and the delay in the application of the service in Sant Feliu
However, Bossa has regretted that being part of the service has an economic cost of approximately 160 thousand euros, which has delayed its implementation in Sant Feliu de Llobregat for budgetary reasons. The objective is to reach an agreement with the Metropolitan Area that allows the service to be provided with the least possible economic impact.
The current context and the Budgets of Sant Feliu
Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council, like many other city councils in Catalonia, has had to extend the approval of the Budgets for 2023 due to several factors, such as the increase in energy and supply prices, increases in civil servants’ salary and the impact of the Constitutional Court ruling on capital gains tax. This context has made it difficult to implement the AMBici service in Sant Feliu.
Similar projects in the past
In the past, several similar projects have been proposed to serve the AMBici. In 2009, the Entitat Metropolitana del Transport (EMT) proposed a project that sought to make a bicycle rental service in the Baix Llobregat and L’Hospitalet compatible with that of Barcelona, but it was not carried out. Subsequently, in 2012, the Bicibox, a bicycle parking lot, was launched, and in 2018, the E-Bicibox, which aims to replace the AMBici, was launched.
