A new churreria in Barcelona

A viral bar from Barcelona will open five locations in South Korea. The historic San Román Xurreria, in the Gothic Quarter, has become an almost mandatory stop for South Korean tourists visiting the Catalan city. This sweet, so typical of our home, is now a delight for visitors to the Asian country and this has led them to expand there and open up to five establishments.

The origin of the churros hobby

But how come Koreans have this sudden fondness for churros? It all started with a simple video on social media, when Jisoo, a member of the famous Korean pop group BlackPink, uploaded a video on her profile eating one of the churros in question. And the fact is, the Korean singer has 77 million followers on Instagram, and within Korean society she is one of the most famous faces, known by practically anyone in the country.

The success of the San Román cheese shop

With this simple anecdote, now, at the door of the small churreria on Calle dels Banys Nous, hundreds of tourists are queuing up to try their famous churros. From the traditional shop, they serve churros day after day to visitors from all over the world who wait patiently to try one of these sweets and upload a photo to their social networks.

The expansion in South Korea

Now, the two partners who run the place, Francisco Almendrós and Xavi Català, have decided to open a total of five places in the Korean capital in order to immerse themselves even more in the culture of the country, and become a regular there. This move on the part of the business has the support of a group of investors from the Asian country, who trust that the San Roman churreria will become a success in Korean lands.
