The Historical Ranking: #BalconLeague2024
The recent study by the Balearic Balconing Federation has revealed the historical ranking of balconing cases in Spain, marked by the launch of the 2024 season with the hashtag #BalconLeague2024.
If you’re not familiar with the term ‘balconing’, it’s a practice where tourists, and even locals, defy gravity by jumping off the balconies of tourist hotels. But I tell you, no one manages to make fun of Newton, leaving a trail of injured and even dead tourists.
Analysis of the Ranking
The study details the cases of balconing according to the origin of the tourists. A final score is calculated by adding the number of fatalities to the number of injuries, providing a comprehensive view.
The United Kingdom tops the ranking with 173 points, tripling the score of the second ranked. This nation records 34 dead and 105 injured, totaling 139 cases. Britons have seen 439 floors fall, with an average jump of 3.2. 24% of cases end in death, with the last incident in 2023.
Germany ranks second with 51 points, registering 12 deaths and 27 injuries in 39 cases. Germans prefer to jump from a slightly higher height, with an average of 3.3. 31% of their jumps from above end fatally.
Spain is surprisingly in third place with 26 points, with 3 dead and 20 injured in 23 cases. The Spaniards have descended 48 floors, with an average jump of 2.1. 13% of their cases are fatal.
Italy and France complete the balconing TOP5 with scores of 18 and 15, respectively.
