Europe on the trapeze

A new challenge for Europe

Europe faces several challenges that affect the lives of Valencians and Spaniards. One of these challenges is the rise of far-right political formations that adopt Eurosceptic and nationalist positions. These formations easily criticize the bureaucracy of the European institutions, but decision-making in the EU is a complex process that requires the coordination of 27 member countries.

Elections and international conflicts

The situation is further complicated by external factors such as international conflicts. The Russian aggression in Ukraine and the war between Israel and the Palestinian territories generate global instability and endanger the freedom of Europe. In addition, the year 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the Ventotene Manifesto, a document that emerged during the Second World War and which defended a free and united Europe.

The role of agriculture and trade

Another major challenge for Europe is agriculture and trade. The farmers’ protests, which have been manipulated by political parties and unions, call into question the agricultural policies of the European Commission. In addition, the Valencian Country has lost ground in the horticultural and manufacturing sectors, and tourism continues to be a seasonal and precarious activity.

The importance of Europeanism

It is essential that citizens understand the benefits of being part of the European Union and trust the European institutions. This requires qualified information and adequate training for all citizens. Valencians have had a long pro-European tradition and have contributed to the integration of Spain into the EU.

The future of Europe

The future of Europe is uncertain, but it is crucial that it is strengthened against the great world powers such as the United States, China and Russia. It is necessary to work for a free and united Europe, with a prosperous economy and an informed and engaged citizenry.
