Four towns in the Vall Fosca will install lights to reduce light pollution

A project to preserve the night sky

Four towns in Vall Fosca, located near the Aigüestortes National Park and Estany de Sant Maurici, are carrying out an innovative project to reduce light pollution and preserve the night sky. This initiative, which has been tendered by the Diputació de Lleida, aims to adapt these centers to the new level of protection E1.

A change in public lighting

The project consists of the installation of 257 new lights in the towns of Espui, Pobleta de Bellveí, Capdella and Central de Capdella, as well as in Vilaller and Senet. These luminaires will replace the old polluting lights with others of low spectral emission, with the aim of directing the light downwards and reducing light pollution.

An international recognition

The Aigüestortes National Park and the municipalities in its area of influence obtained accreditation as a Unesco Starlight reserve and tourist destination in October 2018. This recognition highlights the quality of this night sky area and its low light pollution.

A step towards tourism sustainability

This project is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Lleida Natural Destination, which aims to reformulate the tourism model of the area and consolidate the natural spaces of Lleida as a tourist destination of excellence and compatible with the values of sustainability . This plan has funding of 3,500,000 euros from the Next Generation funds.
