6.9 million euros for dubbing and subtitling in Catalan
In order to make Catalan reach more audiences and make it a common and normal language on the major audiovisual platforms, the Department of Culture of the Catalan Government will dedicate 6.9 million euros to aid for dubbing and subtitling in Catalan: 4 .4 million euros for platforms, 2.5 million euros for cinema. These are the highest initial amounts in the history of these subsidies, and as Councilor Garriga has reported from Los Angeles, if the Catalan Government’s budget is validated, the allocation will be 8 million euros.
The subsidies are adapted to the new audiovisual consumption
The two subsidy lines are renewed to adjust to the new behaviors of the viewers. The line focused on platforms has relevant news:
Platforms, for the first time
The dubbing and subtitling subsidy lines were designed with the demands of cinema distributors in mind. They have now been changed to equalize the platforms, and they will be able to directly apply for grants to dub and subtitle their own content.
New contents
For the first time, it will be possible to apply for subsidies for dubbing and subtitling non-fiction products, such as documentaries and ‘realities’, which are increasingly common on platforms.
accessibility
For the first time there will be aids for audio description in Catalan and interpretation in Catalan sign language.
Occitan
Subsidies can also be applied for dubbing and subtitling in Occitan.
Quality dubbing
Dubbing and subtitling fees are also being increased for the first time since 2015 to ensure the highest quality in all types of products.
The Catalan Government promotes Catalan in audiovisual media
These subsidy lines are part of the action of the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia in the field of promoting the Catalan language in the audiovisual world.
