Elena Fort: From Director of Barça to Member of Parliament
Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas’ recent farewell to Parliament has generated significant changes both politically and at Barça. One of the most outstanding results is the rise of Elena Fort, previously director of the Blaugrana club, as the party’s new deputy in the Catalan chamber. This transition represents a new stage for Fort, who had already represented Carles Puigdemont’s party in the chamber during the last legislature. His decision to join Joan Laporta’s project to return to the presidency of Barça in 2021, after failing to obtain a seat in the last Catalan elections, has marked his political career.
Elena Fort’s role at Barça
From the Blaugrana board of directors, Elena Fort has assumed the role of head of Espai Barça. This is not his first time at the club, since between 2008 and 2010 he accompanied Joan Laporta at the end of his first term after the resignation of several managers. His influence on feminism from the board of directors has been remarkable, clearly expressing his position on relevant issues such as the Casol case, where he stated that “it was very harmful to women who suffer harassment on the basis of gender”.
The Resignation of Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas
On the other hand, the resignation of Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas in the minutes of the Parliament has been produced in a “consensual decision” with Puigdemont since last October, but it has not been effective until now. Alonso-Cuevillas has explained that his professional work at the law firm absorbs him more and more every day, reaching an unsustainable point.
