A historic day for the Royal House

Philip VI, the great protagonist

Last Wednesday was a historic day for the Royal House, with Felipe VI standing out as the main protagonist. Despite some anecdotes, such as the moving toast improvised by Leonor and Sofia, who moved their father by skipping the protocol with tender words, the day had a deep meaning.

A necessary decision

For the last decade, the Royal House has been composed of the kings and their two daughters. When Philip VI inherited the throne, he made the decision to withdraw all official functions from his relatives, a measure necessary to repair the image of the crown, affected by the actions of John Charles I. The new king faced the challenge of recovering the trust of the citizens.

No member of the Borbó family at official events

For this reason, it has been decided that no member of the Borbó family participates in official events. Letizia, for her part, has been firm in her position to avoid any public contact between Leonor and Sofia with Felipe VI’s family. However, the recent public humiliation of Queen Sofia is surprising, since she is still part of the institution.

Queen Sofia humiliated again, no longer belongs to the institution

Queen Sofia requested Philip VI to attend the celebration of the tenth anniversary of her proclamation, but her son vetoed her attendance, leaving her in Zarzuela together with Irene of Greece. The ex-monarch, already tired of the continuous humiliations first by Juan Carlos and now by her son, feels very angry and her relationship with him is increasingly tense.

Resentment towards Letizia

Queen Sofia’s resentment towards Letizia has not diminished since the incident at the cathedral in Palma de Mallorca, where Letizia prevented the Queen Emeritus from being photographed with her granddaughters. The current queen wants the Borbó surname to be forgotten and that Leonor and Sofia are not publicly associated with this part of the family.

A strained relationship

Despite these tensions, Felipe VI maintains a nightly ritual of visiting his mother. He walks from the Prince’s Pavilion to Zarzuela, and sometimes dines with her when her daughters are not present. However, the last night was particularly difficult. Queen Sofia expressed her resentment at the treatment received and showed her indifference towards her son’s proclamation, not even watching it on television. This confrontation reflects the growing distance and coldness in their relationship.

Angry, but with institutional obligations

Angry, Queen Sofia will continue with her institutional obligations. This Thursday and Friday he was in Almeria for a real engagement. However, if it weren’t for Irene from Greece and her delicate state of health, it’s clear that she wouldn’t even be living in Zarzuela anymore. He sees himself outside the institution, even if he continues to be part of it. A perfect excuse to leave the atmosphere of Zarzuela and not cross paths with either Felipe or Letizia. He is very sorry that because of her he does not have a relationship with his two granddaughters.

The relationship with Letizia

The emerita has never had a good relationship with Letizia. He considers her an intruder, and inferior to her for the simple fact of being a commoner. However, because of the love he felt for his son, he undertook to teach her to be the best queen, and he succeeded. Again, he has dared to face her now that she has had a significant loss of power. She has made it clear that everything is her fault and she is very fed up.
