Queen Sofia and her intention to reunite the royal family in Marivent

A missed opportunity

According to various sources, Queen Sofia was planning to host a family reunion in Marivent, Majorca, last summer. This meeting, which would have been historic, was to bring together Kings Felipe VI and Letícia, Princess Eleonor, Infanta Sofia, and Infantas Elena and Cristina with their respective children. The possibility was even considered that the king emeritus Juan Carlos I would participate. Queen Sofia saw this meeting as a unique opportunity to show the world an image of family unity and harmony, something not seen since 2018.

A strong decision

However, the meeting did not materialize. Queen Letizia is said to have strongly opposed the idea and pushed for the infantas and their sons not to visit Marivent while she, King Felipe VI and their daughters were present. Letícia did not want her daughters, Elionor and Sofia, to mix with their cousins, especially when it comes to characters like Froilán, Victoria Federica or Irene Urdangarin. In her role as consort, Letícia adopted an inflexible stance that prevented the long-awaited reunion.

Queen Sofia’s frustration

This decision left Queen Sofia deeply frustrated. I had high hopes for this meeting as a symbol of family cohesion. The failure of the meeting left Queen Sofia devastated and very sad. At 85 years old, he is aware that he will not have many more opportunities to bring the whole family together.

A new attempt

This summer seemed to offer new hope for Queen Sofia. Taking advantage of Letícia’s weakened position after Jaime de Burgo’s revelations about King Felipe’s alleged infidelities, Queen Sofia hoped to impose her wishes and finally achieve family reunion. He has tried to intervene in the organization of the real agenda for the coming weeks, proposing a new family meeting.

An unshakeable decision

However, their efforts have been in vain. Queen Letizia continues to stand by her decision not to allow Sofia’s grandchildren to mingle with Princess Eleanor and Infanta Sofia. Despite having lost some influence, Letícia maintains control over these crucial decisions. He has already warned Sofia that, one more summer, he will not be able to gather his 8 grandchildren, thus confirming the worst omens of the queen emerita.

A family divided

This situation has made it clear that the longed-for family unit will not materialize. Queen Sofia, who has dedicated her life to maintaining balance and harmony within the royal family, is once again faced with the reality of a divided family. Letícia’s determination and the impossibility of gathering all her grandchildren under the same roof have plunged the queen emerita into deep sadness.
