The secret of the alleged illegitimate daughters of Joan Charles I

Revelations about the secret lineage

Last year, journalists José María Olmo and David Fernández published the book ‘King Corp. The untold empire of Juan Carlos’, from the publishing house Llibres del K.O. This book raised blisters in the monarchy, as it embodied some of the murky business dealings of the emeritus, as well as the alleged existence of an illegitimate daughter named Alejandra. This revelation generated a great impact, since it was not the first time that Joan Carles’ illegitimate children were discussed. Apart from the infants Elena and Cristina, and King Felipe VI, four other paternities have been attributed to Joan Carlos I.

Keys to the other paternities

The first known case was that of Albert Solà, who died suddenly when he was about to speak about the matter in a television interview. In addition, there has been talk of the existence of Ingrid Sartiau, who also claims to be the son of John Charles I, and of María Alexandra, who claims to be the daughter of the ex-monarch. All these cases have generated controversy and legal battles to be recognized as legitimate children.

Alejandra’s story

The most recent case is that of Alejandra, an alleged illegitimate daughter of the king emeritus, whose existence was first mentioned in an interview in 2017 by Pilar Eyre and later by the aforementioned journalists. According to the authors of the book, this woman is known to all the members of the Zarzuela palace and to Felipe VI. Although Alejandra has never claimed any succession rights, her story adds more chapters to the intricate plot of Joan Charles I’s paternity.
