A call to hope: Supporting the Holy Land community

The continuous commitment to the Holy Land

Every year, the Church calls for solidarity with the Holy Land community, and this year is no exception. Within the framework of the Jubilee Year, the motto of this year is “Holy Land: Porta Open to Hope”, which invites to reflect on the importance of this sacred territory.

A message of religious leadership support

The Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, together with the custodian of the Holy Land, Francesco Patton, has launched an invitation to all believers: being a pilgrim of hope. This call seeks to reconnect with the roots of faith and to express support to the small but resilient Christian community that lives in the region.

A year of difficulty and hopes

In a recent letter, Fra Patton shared that in the last year it has been especially complicated for the residents of the Holy Land. Violence and tensions have left a deep imprint, generating more division and suffering between neighboring communities.

The importance of the Good Friday’s collection

Through the Holy Friday’s collection, it seeks to raise funds to maintain shrines and churches as prayer and reception spaces for pilgrims. In addition, these resources are vital to the development of educational and social projects, including schools and health services.

An invitation to action

Fra Pedro González, curator of the Franciscan province of the Franciscan province of the Immaculate province, has encouraged the generosity, emphasizing that although peace is still distant, there is a new opportunity to resume pilgrimages. This experience will allow believers to connect directly with the needs of the local community.

A future of hope and collaboration

Despite the challenges they face, collections and donations are still essential for the support of the church in the Holy Land. The community hopes that, with the support of the faithful from around the world, they will be able to continue their life activities and keep the hope alive in the better future.
