The Festival that Celebrates the Passat
Memorimage, a reference event in the world of cinema, returns to Reus from 6 to 9 November, offering a unique opportunity to explore archival images. This 19th edition promises to be a visual feast with twenty selected films that include Catalan, European and one Russian works, all intended to provoke reflection on our shared history.
News and Collaborations
One of the great novelties of this year is the introduction of an award jointly with the Association of Audiovisual Documentaries of Spain (ADAE), which will recognize those productions that have stood out in the use of archive images. In addition, the festival is associated with Italy’s UnArchive Festival, bringing to Reus a special session of innovative short films that explore the creative use of this type of images.
A Conductive Thread: The Selective Memory
This year’s theme revolves around ‘selective memory’, a concept that looks at how memories are selected and repressed. Director Anna Petrus has emphasized that the selected films invite reflection on what we choose to remember and what we leave behind. Among the outstanding works, we find ‘Echo of You’ by Zara Zerny and ‘Le Mans 55’ by Emmanuel Reyé, which will be part of the official competition.
Local Memory and Historical Claim
The Councilor for Culture of Reus, Daniel Recasens, has highlighted the MemoriReus section, which seeks to recover and highlight the memory of relevant figures in the demarcation. Among the productions that will be exhibited, is ‘In Memoriam Biel’, which portrays the life of the poet Gabriel Ferrater, as well as ‘Dolors’, a documentary that rescues the figure of Dolors Vives, a pioneer as an airplane pilot.
Special Activities and Educational Initiatives
In addition to the films, the Memorimage will offer special sessions such as ‘Paret delgada: Un fil d’esperança’ and ‘Maquis a les montanes de Prades’, which revisit key moments in local history. The MemoPlay competition is also launched, inviting students to create short films using archival footage, encouraging creativity and access to history.
A Future Full of Possibilities
With its 19th edition, the Memorimage not only celebrates cinema, but also seeks to establish an intergenerational dialogue, connecting new generations with their visual heritage. Anna Petrus and Daniel Recasens agree on the importance of fostering local creativity and access to archival images, building a future in which memory and cinema go hand in hand.
