A deputy of Podemos in Murcia protests by chaining himself after being sanctioned

Sanction and protest

The deputy of Podemos in the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Víctor Egío, has been sanctioned with a month without salary or work after a vote in which he was attacked by a far-right deputy and was forced to leave the chamber. This situation was the reason for a forceful protest on the part of Egío.

The chain as a form of protest

After being convicted, Víctor Egío chained his hands as a sign of protest against the imposed penalty. He claimed that he was the first MP expelled and sanctioned in the history of the Assembly.

The sanction and the votes

The sanction proposal, approved with the votes of the PP and Vox but with the votes against the PSOE and the mixed group, generated a strong debate. MPs expressed divided views on the decision and stressed the importance of respect and tolerance within the Assembly.

The political reaction

Socialist Carmina Fernández denounced the insults and contempt received by the right-wing, and urged an end to this behavior in the chamber. He called for a return to debate and dialogue as fundamental pillars of parliamentarism.
