A Journey to the Past: The Celebration of the Three Tombs in The Bisbal

A tradition that shines again

This coming Sunday, March 9, La Bisbal del Penedès will be dressed in Gala to host the emblematic Feast of the Three Tombs. The celebration, which will begin at 8.30am with a popular breakfast in the Batre era, promises to be a tribute to agricultural traditions and the life of the countryside, with the participation of carts, horses and riders.

A popular breakfast and local delights

The breakfast, organized by the Ball de Diables de la Bisbal, will offer a selection of local dishes for only 8 euros, in collaboration with the La Roca Foradada Women’s Association, which will put delicious tortillas for sale. This activity not only feeds the body, it also promotes community feeling among attendees.

Historical and nostalgic journey

At 11.30 am, the traditional route of the Tres Tombs will be launched, which this year will regain its usual route, including the emblematic rise of La Riba. This modification is significant, since last year it had to be changed due to the works in the neighborhood.

Party origins

Since 1992, La Bisbal has been celebrating this festival, inspired by Rafel Vidal, a Bisbalenc who began traveling various parties with his car and horses. His passion inspired a group of neighbors to found the Tres Tombs Association, which has been instrumental in organizing this event.

A return to roots

After a short period of stoppage, the party was revitalized in 2017, with the support of the City Council and the experience of the old organizing board. Mayor Agnès Ferré emphasized the importance of this celebration to keep the memory of the old farmers and traginers in the region alive.

The role of the beating age

The Batre era, an emblematic place where the festival begins, is a space that evokes the agricultural history of the town. There you can find murals that represent scenes of rural life, such as the processing of wheat and the figure of animals that have been essential in this tradition.

Commitment to quality and well -being

With the intention of guaranteeing a safe and respectful celebration, the City Council has decided to collaborate with the Coordinator Tres Tombs Province Tarragona. This entity will be in charge of ensuring the welfare of the animals, as well as to manage the organization of the day of the holiday.

Preservation of cultural heritage

In addition, the Coordinator will be in charge of selecting participants with the aim of maintaining quality standards and preserving the old trades, such as the one of Traginer and Carreter. This action seeks not only to celebrate the party, but also to educate and transmit the value of intangible heritage to new generations.
