A magical musical evening at the Peralada festival

A romantic night with Piotr Beczala

The Peralada Festival, located in Alt Empordà, has experienced a charming ‘romantic night’ of poetry with the presentation of the Polish tenor Piotr Beczala. The artist gave a recital divided into two acts that attracted around 250 spectators in the Carme church. In the first, Beczala paid tribute to the Russian composer Tchaikovsky with nine pieces, accompanied by the French pianist Sarah Tysman. The second part included opera arias by Moniuszko, Dvorák, Verdi and Puccini. The attendees, who sold out the tickets to see the tenor on his third visit to the festival, enjoyed a performance full of emotion, this being the first in ten years.

Beczala’s appreciation of Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky is a figure of great relevance to Piotr Beczala, and his devotion was reflected in a performance that transformed the Carme Church of Peralada Castle into the perfect setting for an unforgettable lyrical evening. At the end of the first act, the tenor received the first of the two ovations of the night, after delighting the audience with some of the Russian composer’s most famous arias. This segment dedicated to Tchaikovsky was the prelude to a dazzling second part, where, together with Sarah Tysman, he performed pieces by other greats such as his compatriot Stanislaw Moniuszko, the Czech Antonín Dvorák and the Italians Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.

A classic and vibrant repertoire

Beczala began his recital with a Tchaikovsky program that spanned 40 minutes, including nine romances by the Russian composer, culminating with the famous ‘Kuda, kuda, kuda vi udalilis’, known as Lensky’s aria from the opera ‘Eugene Onegin’. After the first ovation, and a brief intermission, the second act began with the aria of ‘The Tenor’ from the opera ‘Straszny Dwór’ by Moniuszko, followed by the Prince’s aria from ‘Rusalka’ by Dvorák. Two pieces by Giuseppe Verdi gave way to the closing with the arias from Puccini’s ‘Tosca’, ‘Recondita Armonia’ and ‘E luzvan le stelle’, ending his third appearance in Peralada with a flourish.

A talent appreciated by the festival

The artistic director of the Peralada festival, Oriol Aguilà, enthusiastically celebrated the third visit of Piotr Beczala, whom he described as the ‘prince of tenors’, and noted that his return is more than expected. ‘He is a good friend of the festival and we are sure that he will return,’ Aguilà highlighted.

An edition dedicated to Pedro Almodóvar

In this edition, whose poster was designed by Pedro Almodóvar, the Peralada Festival has scheduled the musical show ‘Pasión Almodóvar’ for this Saturday, July 20. This is a unique proposal with the voice of Pasión Vega, who will offer a recital with songs taken from the films of the director from La Mancha, paying tribute to the sentimental and emotional universe of the filmmaker through the songs that make up the soundtrack of the filmography of he.
