The Scottish Parliament regards the right to self-determination as a fundamental human right
The deputy of the Scottish Nationalist Party Bill Kidd has presented a motion of support for the consultations on the independence of Catalonia that will be held on December 13. The motion highlights that more than 140 cities throughout Catalonia will hold a referendum on the question of whether Catalonia should be an independent, democratic and social state of law, integrated into the European Union. Despite the declared intention of the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office to appeal against them, the Scottish Parliament welcomes with satisfaction the right of the Catalan people to express their views on this important issue.
The right to free determination is a fundamental human right
The Scottish Parliament considers that the right to self-determination, enshrined in the United Nations Charter, is a fundamental human right that must not be denied. Parliament expects the Spanish Government to work constructively together with the Government of Catalonia to respect the wishes of the Catalan people.
