A musical celebration: Tradition and Innovation in Concert

The riquesa of popular culture

The art of glossar can be understood as a form of improvisation that encapsulates the essence of popular culture. This dynamic art not only reflects the reality of a moment and a place, it also constantly evolves, adapting to new generations and contexts. Luis Carvalho recently was chosen to create a commemorative work in honor of the 150th anniversary of a band of the Azores. Its composition, ‘Gentio Sao Olhos Negros …’, is a brilliant example of this fusion between tradition and modernity.

A concert full of surprises

The concert entitled ‘Gloses de l’Art’ will take place in the Sala Pau Casals of the Auditorium on April 27, with a program designed to captivate the public. Directed by José R. Pascual-Vilaplana, the concert will begin with the piece ‘Apoteose’ by Joäo Malha, followed by the contribution of the Portuguese symphonic band. This first block will focus on contemporary works, highlighting the new musical creation.

Releases and tributes

The Barcelona Municipal Band (BMB) will present the ‘Memory of the Isla Verde’ first, a work commissioned by the composer José Maria Sánchez-Verdú and performed by the soloist clarinetist Manuel Martínez. This piece will be followed by ‘Gloses II’ by Amando Blanquer, a tribute to its 90th anniversary, which seeks to strengthen the band’s artistic identity through innovative rhythms and sounds.

A Musical Journey through Mythology

The concert will culminate in a collaboration between the two bands to perform ‘Dionysiaques, op. 62 ‘by Florent Schmitt, a work that evokes the Dionysian festivals of ancient Greece. Composed in 1913, its premiere was delayed until 1925. The singular instrumentation of this piece, which includes unusual instruments such as the Sarrussophone, highlights it in the band’s repertoire.

Post-Concert Music Innovation

At the end of the event, the public will be able to enjoy the show ‘Belar’, presented by the artists Núria Andorrà, Joana Gomila and Laia Vallès. This proposal combines modern elements such as synthesizers and synthesizers with traditional songs, offering a unique and contemporary musical experience.
