A Musical Journey through Catalan Memory

Celebration of a Cultural Legacy

On August 3, the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Vallbona will become the scene of a special honor for Joan Margarit, an essential figure in the Catalan literary scene. With a concert dedicated to his contributions, the La Pedra Parla festival kicks off with the music of prominent composers such as Guinovart and Brotons, complemented by the works of Schubert. In such an intimate and meaningful environment, attendees will be able to relive the essence of his verses.

Connections between Music and History

Before the music fills the space, a conference led by Jordi Domènech will bring together attendees and musicologist Marga Mingote to explore the monastery’s musical archive. This meeting will not only focus on his doctoral research, but will also offer an overview of the state of music archives in Catalonia, highlighting the importance of preserving Catalan cultural heritage.

A Festival that Builds Community

The Pedra Parla has become a meeting point for lovers of music and literature, building a community of attendees who anticipate this weekend of party and culture. Domènech emphasizes that a real ‘family’ of attendees has formed who return every year, which reflects the success of this modest but significant festival.

Music and Poetry: A Unique Dialogue

This year’s edition of the festival is enriched with two performances focused on the voice. The baritone Ferran Albrich, accompanied by musicians such as Oriol Prat and Victoria Guerrero, will offer a tribute to Margarit. On the other hand, pianist Emili Brugalla will interpret Mompou’s compositions, while actor Lluís Homar will recite poems by key figures such as Santa Teresa de Jesús and Verdaguer, showing the interconnection between music and Catalan mystical poetry.

A farewell with musical surprises

The festival will close on August 4 with the InCanto concert, which will take a trip to Catalan baroque music, presenting little-known authors such as Rossell and Terradellas. The soprano Marta Matheu will lead the performance, surrounded by a group of instrumentalists who will demonstrate the richness of the Catalan musical heritage. Domènech is confident that this latest performance will leave a significant mark among the attendees, reinforcing the goal of celebrating local culture.

Looking Towards the Future

With the enthusiasm to expand the scope of the festival always present, Domènech emphasizes the importance of maintaining the close and accessible nature of this event. The fusion of community, tribute and artistic experience will continue to be the basis of a festival that fuses cultural experiences and music in a welcoming environment.
