The Vijazz Vilafranca festival: A combination of wine and jazz music
Last April 3, Espai Penedès in Barcelona was the setting for the presentation of a new edition of the Vijazz Vilafranca festival. Since 2005, this event combines a wine fair with concerts by various jazz figures.
As every year, the festival is scheduled for the first weekend of July, placing it as one of the first mass events on the summer festival route.
The Press Conference and the Festival Program
During the press conference, Max Margalef, president of Tastavins Penedès, the organizing body, Gemma Romeu, Councilor for Tourism of Vilafranca City Council, and Carles Ocaña, artistic director of Vijazz, took part.
Ocaña explained the programming based on three criteria: the quality and diversity of styles, the participation of relevant artists and a commitment to new jazz trends.
The Vijazz 2024 line-up stands out for the presence of innovative artists who mix the field of jazz-fusion or with contemporary styles, trends or aesthetics that fit current popular music.
Featured Artists
The festival will feature prominent artists such as Hiromi, Markus Strickland, Cory Henry, Mansur Brown, Lizz Wright and Léon Phal, who will offer performances that fuse various musical influences.
New Talents and Tributes
In addition to the announced artists, the festival will also include performances by new talents from the ESMUC and two big bands from the Escola Municipal de Música Dolors Calvet, who will pay tribute to Stevie Wonder with vocalist Alex Dee.
