A new educational approach to the connection with nature in the Pyrenees

An innovative initiative for young explorers

The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of Catalonia, in collaboration with the natural parks of Cadí-Moixeró and the Alt Pirineu, as well as the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, has launched a pioneering project: the Interparcs School Agenda in the Pyrenees 2025-2026. This proposal, which is supported by the Geopark Origins, the Boumort National Hunting Reserve and the Conselh Generau d’Aran, seeks to establish a strong bond between the youngest and their natural environment.

Rich and diversified content

The agenda, designed in field notebook format, contains a selection of information on the protected natural spaces of the Pyrenees, as well as a range of educational activities. Each week, students, their families and teachers will discover curiosities about nature and address various environmental challenges. In addition, the agenda includes interactive games, tips to enjoy nature responsibly, and a guide to identifying species.

A sustainable and artistic project

Aimed at children and young people between the ages of 3 and 16, the agenda has been illustrated by the ornithologist and scientific artist Alex Mascarell, and has played in ecological role, without plastic elements, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability.

Presentations and dissemination between educators

To promote this initiative among education professionals, several presentations have been organized in different locations. Recently, informative sessions have been held in Boí and Vielha, with more programmed in La Seu d’Urgell and Sort.

Positive and future valuation promise

Carlota Valls, director of the Territorial Education Services in the Alt Pirineu i Aran, emphasized the importance of this project, stating that “the agenda is a key tool for disseminating the richness of our natural spaces and to raise awareness of the educational community on the challenges of its conservation.”

Impulse to the Interparcan School Network

In addition, this agenda sets the way to the formal creation of the Interparcs School Network of the Pyrenees, which will be established on July 1, integrating about 40 educational centers, including 33 schools and 7 institutes.

Commitment to Environmental Education

Jordi Sargatal, Secretary of Ecological Transition, emphasized that these actions were part of the strategies of parks and environmental education policies. “Our purpose is to strengthen environmental education and volunteering among students in the Parks of the Pyrenees, as well as improve collaboration with educational institutions,” concluded Sargatal.
