A new energy horizon: the ambitious Teruel wind farm

Approval marks a milestone in renewable energy

The Teruel Maestrazgo Cluster Project has recently received the Administrative Construction Authorization, a fundamental step approved by the Council of Ministers. This development seeks to establish itself as the largest wind farm in Spain, with the expectation of being operational by the end of 2026.

Environmental impact and sustainability

With an expected production capacity of 1,986 GWh of electricity per year, this wind farm has the potential to supply 570,000 homes. In addition, it is estimated that it will allow a significant reduction of 320,000 tons of CO2eq emissions per year, thus supporting Spain’s ambitious goal of increasing renewable energy generation.

Boosting local industry

This project not only represents a breakthrough in clean energy production, but also promises to revitalize the country’s wind industry. Most of the components needed for the park will be supplied by local suppliers, fostering regional economic growth.

Strategic collaborations

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the project developer, has signed an agreement worth more than 700 million euros with GE Vernova. This contract includes the delivery and installation of 125 wind turbines, the blades of which will be manufactured in Castellón.

Domestic production of components

The wind turbine towers will also be manufactured at several plants in Spain, while Hitachi Energy will be responsible for the necessary transformers, producing the largest ones at its factory in Córdoba.

Socioeconomic benefits and future vision

CIP partner Nischal Agarwal expressed his satisfaction at reaching this important milestone, highlighting that the project will not only contribute to the decarbonisation of the country, but will also generate employment and strengthen the economy in Aragon and Valencia.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners: a leader in renewable energy

Since its founding in 2012, CIP has established itself as a global benchmark in investments in renewable energy, with a portfolio that exceeds 4 GW in projects in Spain. In addition, Catalina PtX is developing, an innovative green hydrogen project in Teruel.

The ambition of the Teruel Maestrazgo Cluster Project not only redefines the Spanish energy landscape, but also sets a model to follow for future initiatives in the clean energy sector, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
