Health Impulse: Two key initiatives

Sitges has recently witnessed a double news in the healthcare sector. On the one hand, the Minister of Health, Olga Pané, confirmed that the extension project of the Primary Care Center (CAP) will continue. This statement was made during a visit to the town, where he was accompanied by the mayor, Aurora Carbonell.

On the other hand, the development of a new private health center in the area of La Plana, promoted by Felip Massot, founder of the Vertix Group, is already underway. Both initiatives, despite operating in different fields, are presented as positive solutions to meet the growing needs of the population.

An unprecedented population growth

With more than 35,000 inhabitants, Sitges is experiencing a significant population increase, with more than 1,000 new residents each year. This dynamic represents constant growth that had not been observed earlier, not even during the 2000’s, when many neighbors transformed their second homes into their main residence.

From the pandemic, the town has seen a significant increase in visitors, overcoming its ability to provide adequate services. At the same time, the high cost of the house is causing the escape of local youth, which is forced to leave its hometown.

Shortcomings in public services

The inability of administrations to respond to this growth is evident every day. An example is the poor commuter service, which affects those who need to move to work or study. The difficulties in accessing educational places are also notorious, although efforts have recently been made to improve the situation.

In the healthcare sector, the situation is just as worrying. The current head of Sitges, which opened in 1999, has not been updated to deal with the population increase, and Sant Camil Hospital has several shortcomings that prevent proper care.

Perspectives Positives per al Futur

For this reason, it is crucial to value the two initiatives that have arisen to improve health care in the town. With the extension of the CAP, it is planned to update the available services, while the new private clinic is a significant step towards better health care.

As Sitges continues to grow, these measures will be essential to ensure a proper quality of life for their residents and to face the future challenges presented.

A promising future

The combination of public and private efforts in the healthcare sector can mark a before and after in the quality of life of the population of Sitges. With these initiatives, new opportunities can be opened for more efficient and accessible care, thus ensuring a healthier future for all neighbors.
